Backgrounder:
An element of competition
is introduced as CMT viewers ultimately decide the act with the most star potential through text message voting
in a two-hour live in-studio special on Monday, November 13 at 6 PM PST. The studio audience, artists and industry
executives converge in the CMT studios where the lucky and talented winner is awarded $35,000 towards the making
of their next music video.
Taking six independent country artists who have each achieved regional and opening act-level success, this six-part
documentary/competition series strives to take them to headliner status by giving them all the tools they need
to “make it.” Each episode profiles one act, following their daily lives: their day jobs, their hopes, families
and friends, and their unpolished songs. Then it’s off to music industry boot camp in Toronto, where, with the
assistance of music industry experts Ron Kitchener (RGK Entertainment Group Inc.), Alan Frew (Glass Tiger) and
Bonnie Fedrau (So Star Struck!), they’re in for a rapid transformation: management consultation, a style makeover
and the production of their own music videos. At boot camp, dreams, a remarkable opportunity, and the reality of
a tough industry all collide.
“We are pleased to continue CMT’s tradition of spotlighting undiscovered artists with Plucked,” said Ted Ellis,
Director of Programming, CMT. “This innovative series allows us to nurture the careers of several Canadian artists,
while providing viewers with an engaging and interactive experience.”
